‘5 / 21’ is a political action thriller set a few years in the future. A very few. Tuesday, the 21st of May starts full of promise, but by noon the new British Prime Minister, Andrew Knox, is aware that London may be uninhabitable before nightfall. Alerted by a mysterious e mail, the Police are fighting to save the city as terrorists mount a series of attacks using weapons of mass destruction. If they fail, London may become a radioactive wasteland that will glow for many years to come. On the same day sex scandals emerge that rock the Cabinet and threaten political turmoil. The Prime Minister wants to focus on saving lives but is forced to fight for his political survival. Jenny Herrick, his new bodyguard, fears Knox faces mortal threats – and is soon proved right. Andrew Knox finds that he is relying more and more on her advice. Soon the Prime Minister realises that he falling in love with her. Is it love – or is it lust? Theirs is not the only romance sparked by the crisis and tested by events. Then within hours it becomes clear the government’s most secure computer systems are being manipulated and that night a robbery at the Bank of England exposes long buried secrets that may plunge the Middle East into war. As the crisis deepens, the terrorists penetrate 10 Downing Street and take Knox hostage, leading to a cliff hanger ending. 5/21 will not help Londoners sleep at night. It’s only fiction – or is it? Every event in the story could really happen. Some already have – but we have not been told. 5/21 asks questions the powers that be would rather remain unasked, exposes real scandals long buried in gold vaults under Threadneedle Street and contemplates the possible future of computers. 5/21 – read it quickly before the lights go out. |
